How to choose the cable connector

2024-10-06

In cable engineering, the use of cable joints is relatively frequent, and sometimes the problem of a joint is not handled well, which will affect the quality of the entire cable project, and even the progress of the entire cable project. Therefore, the following issues should be paid attention to when selecting and using cable joints.

Whether the selected joint material meets the requirements

The selected cable joint material has the following requirements: (1) It should have good electrical conductivity. For example, copper and aluminum joints should have low resistivity, and aluminum conductors should have low thermal conductivity. (2) to have a high corrosion resistance, such as copper joints, aluminum joints are not easy to rust under different environmental conditions; (3) to have a high mechanical strength and wear resistance, such as aluminum conductor should have a high tensile strength; (4) To have good sealing and waterproof performance, such as copper, aluminum joints are susceptible to moisture when the seal is not good; (5) To have good insulation properties, such as aluminum conductors should have sufficient insulation resistance and voltage resistance. The material and technological parameters of cable joints are closely related to the cable insulation quality, joint processing quality and service conditions. These factors should be considered comprehensively when selecting.

The structure of the selected cable connector is reasonable

For different types of cables, cable connectors of different types and specifications should be used. For example, 3 x 40mm2 (6X50mm2) and 4 x 40mm2 (6X50mm2) cables can use the same type of cable connector.

The selected joint material is compatible with the environmental conditions

For cables used under different environmental conditions, such as indoor, outdoor, rain and other different environmental conditions, cable connectors of different varieties, specifications, models and materials should be used. For example, when used in humid environments, cable connectors with good water resistance, high insulation resistance and good voltage resistance should be selected. When used in cold areas, waterproof type material or metal sheath protective insulation layer should be used for protection.

Cable joints of different structural types and specifications should be selected according to design requirements. If the thickness of the aluminum conductor and the aluminum sleeve protective layer is 1.5 mm (6X50mm2) and 2.5 mm (6X50mm2), the connection between the copper conductor and the aluminum conductor can be used with the copper sleeve protective layer thickness of 0.5 mm (6X50mm2) and 2.5 mm (6X50mm2).
